US President Donald Trump said on July 8 that United States forces hit Iran “very hard" after the assault the day before on three cargo ships transiting the Strait of Hormuz.

French President Emmanuel Macron said he believed Iranian strikes on US bases in the Gulf violated the interim accord and Iran had been wrong to carry them out.
