Umno-PAS merger? - Mixed reactions from MPs

Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s call for a merger between Umno and PAS has triggered mixed reactions from leaders from PAS and within the Barisan Nasional coalition.

While PAS deputy president Datuk Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man maintained that his party needs time to study on the merger, MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong said his stand on the merger is firm, and he will let the party’s central delegates during the party annual general assembly on Dec 2 to decide if MCA will remain in Barisan Nasional or leave the coalition.

MIC president Tan Sri S. A. Vigneswaran meanwhile says his party has no problem working with PAS. He said MIC had taken the cue from the then opposition DAP who had no qualms working with Amanah, however, he would consider the party’s stance after consulting with their CWC and MCA.
