A video filmed by Japanese public broadcaster NHK showed the moment when former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe was shot while campaigning in the western city of Nara on Friday (July 8).

Two gunshots could be heard as the video jerked sharply, followed by security personnel tackling a man believed to be the suspect, identified as Tetsuya Yamagami.

NHK quoted the 41-year-old suspect as telling police he was dissatisfied with Abe and wanted to kill him.
