When asked if it was okay for a transgender to use a female toilet, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department in charge of religious affairs Datuk Dr Mujahid Yusof Rawa said it is the basic human needs to use toilets, and therefore a transgender woman can rightfully use the female toilet.

Transgender activist Nisha Ayub applauded Dr Mujahid’s acknowledgment and called it a “progress”.

The two met up on Friday following a heated public debate on the removal of Nisha and LGBT activist Pang Khee Teik’s portraits from a photo exhibition at the George Town Festival.
