Malaysia on Friday said US investment bank Goldman Sachs had agreed to a US$3.9bil (RM16.63bil) settlement with the Malaysian government over the multibillion-dollar 1MDB scandal.

William Cohan, author of the book "Money and Power: How Goldman Sachs Came to Rule the World," joined CNBC’s "Squawk Box" to discuss about the latest development.

He said the bank’s top executives had been trying to reach a settlement with Malaysia and now that the deal had been reached, many people think that the amount was more than expected.
