Zambry: Confident and swift action needed to turn varsities' research into marketable solutions

Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir says Malaysia has strong research and innovation potential but needs greater confidence, stronger industry partnerships and faster execution to turn university research into market-ready solutions.

Speaking at the University Research and Innovation Investment Summit (Uriis) 2026 on Tuesday (Sept 22), Zambry said more than 500 matched patents worth over RM2bil are recorded on the Malaysian R&D Commercialisation Portal, showing that the challenge is commercialising ideas rather than a lack of talent or research.
