Wee calls for improved GST instead of hybrid SST approach

Datuk Seri Wee Jeck Seng (BN-Tanjung Piai) has urged the government to consider an improved Goods and Services Tax (GST) instead of retaining the Sales and Service Tax (SST) while incorporating GST elements, arguing that a revamped GST could offer greater transparency and efficiency.

During the Budget 2027 debate in the Dewan Rakyat on Thursday (Oct 15), Wee stressed that any tax reform should minimise compliance costs for small and medium enterprises (SMEs), provide clear guidelines, allow sufficient transition time and ensure faster refunds and protections for essential goods and lower-income households.
