US and Japan intervene in currency market to help halt yen's fall

Both the United States and Japan conducted a coordinated Japanese yen-buying intervention on July 31 and will not hesitate to take further action, said the governments confirming a rare bilateral action to halt the yen's slide to fresh 40-year lows.
The joint intervention is the first since 2011's action after the devastating earthquake in eastern Japan.
