Umno needs a formal digital wing in today's political arena, says Azalina

Umno should establish a dedicated digital wing as part of its formal party structure to strengthen its social media presence, especially for election campaigns, said information chief Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said.

Speaking at the Digital Era in Politics Symposium 2026 during the Umno General Assembly on Wednesday (Jan 14), Azalina stressed the need for systematic social media training for party members, noting that political communication has moved beyond face-to-face engagement.

Azalina, who is also Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Law and Institutional Reform), warned that emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence and deepfake videos pose growing threats to political integrity.
