UEC recognition is not viewed in isolation, says Higher Education Minister

The recognition of the Unified Examination Certificate (UEC) is not viewed in isolation but as part of a comprehensive approach involving the entire national education ecosystem.
Speaking during a press conference after the launch of the National Education Blueprint 2026-2035 on Tuesday (Jan 20), Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Zambry Abd Kadir said all non-national curriculum streams — including international, religious and Arab schools — must first meet basic requirements, especially the teaching of Bahasa Melayu and History under the national curriculum, before any decision on entry into public universities is made.
He added that the Education and Higher Education Ministries will coordinate to ensure alignment across all systems.
