Tun M on national car: We need to protect our infant industry

Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad on Monday said the review of the national automotive policy is vital in order to protect the infant industry. He added that while the Government agrees with the practice of free trade, other countries worldwide imposed conditions for their own markets. Earlier, Dr Mahathir told the Dewan Rakyat that the automotive industry is vital for a country's growth and that a new national car project would help boost Malaysia's engineering capabilities.
