U.S. President Donald Trump warned of a "major retaliation" if Iran strikes back for the killing of one of its top military commanders. Speaking to reporters on Air Force One, the president also stood by an earlier threat to target cultural sites.

Trump has threatened to hit 52 Iranian sites, including cultural targets, if Tehran attacks Americans or U.S. assets, deepening a crisis that has heightened fears of a major Middle East conflagration.

Qassem Soleimani was killed in a U.S. air strike last week.
