Tougher penalties needed to deter drink driving, says Azalina

Existing penalties for offences involving driving while intoxicated should be reviewed to strengthen their deterrent effect and overall impact, says Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Law and Institutional Reform) Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said.

Speaking to reporters on Friday (April 3), she said current road traffic offence provisions are too lenient and fail to serve as a strong warning. Stricter laws may be needed to instil caution and deter risky behaviour.
