Timor-Leste shuts schools as Indonesia wildfire haze intensifies

Schools in Timor-Leste stood empty on Thursday (Oct 15) after authorities suspended classes as worsening haze blanketed the capital Dili, raising concerns over air quality and students' health.

Indonesia has blamed peatland degradation by past food estates for its worst wildfire season in 11 years as the transboundary haze has also polluted the air in neighbouring countries.
