Three genres of Balinese traditional dance recognized by UNESCO

The Culture and Primary Education Minister Anies Baswedan presented Bali Governor I Made Mangku Pastika with a certificate from UNESCO during the opening of 38th Bali Arts Festival on June 11, 2016.

Three genres of Balinese traditional dance were recognized as intangible cultural heritage by UNESCO during the 10th session of UNESCO's Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage, held in Windhoek, Namibia, on Dec. 2, 2015.

Forms of traditional dance can be found in eight regencies in Bali, namely Karangasem, Klungkung, Bangli, Gianyar, Badung, Tabanan, Jembrana, Buleleng and the city of Denpasar.
