Sulu case is now history, claimants owe Malaysia almost RM1mil

The Paris Court of Appeal has fully annulled the purported US$14.92bil (RM61.44bil) “Final Award” issued by arbitrator Gonzalo Stampa on Feb 28, 2022, and ordered the so-called Sulu claimants to pay EUR200,000 (RM957,140) in costs to Malaysia.

Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said on Wednesday (Dec 10) that the court ruled Stampa had no jurisdiction to issue the award because there was no valid arbitration agreement binding Malaysia.

He added that Malaysia remains prepared to challenge the so-called Sulu claimants in any court they pursue.
