South Korea heatwave: 16 dead, president demands more to protect people

It took 36 minutes for an ice block to melt under the sizzling heat as the South Korean capital of Seoul sweltered in temperatures of 36.7°C on Aug 3.

The heatwave has killed 16 people so far and with Yangsan city recording 42.5 C, the highest temperature measured in 122 years of weather observations, South Korean President Lee Jae Myung demanded authorities to step up efforts to protect people.
