Selangor's rent-to-own fix for housing affordability

Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari says home ownership remains a top priority despite affordability complaints in the country's richest state.

With 174,000 affordable housing units in the pipeline and 40% completed, he says the real barrier isn't supply — it's the 10% down payment buyers can't afford.

His solution: the Smart Sewa rental scheme, which returns 30% of rent paid after 4-5 years to help tenants finally qualify for a home loan.
