Egypt secured the first World Cup win in their history, coming from behind to beat New Zealand 3-1 in Vancouver, with captain Mohamed Salah among the scorers on Sunday (June 21).

In other matches, Spain bounced back from their opening shock with a 4-0 rout of Saudi Arabia; debutants Cape Verde fought back from 2-1 down to draw 2-2 with Uruguay while Belgium were held 0-0 by Iran, finishing with ten men after a red card.
