Racial identity cannot be gauge to assess economic success, says PM

Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said racial identity cannot be used as a gauge to evaluate economic success because everyone has the opportunity to achieve progress.

Dr Mahathir said the spirit of unity shown by Malaysians from the time of securing independence enabled the country to weather the racial riots that took place in 1969.

The Prime Minister said this at the Premier Unity Gathering at Dewan Sri Pinang in George Town, Penang on Friday.
