PM: Armed Forces to get similar powers as police to curb illegal entry at borders

The Armed Forces will be given similar powers as the police and they will be allowed to arrest, examine and seize items from illegal immigrants under the Emergency Ordinance (Essential Powers) 2021.

Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said this was done to help other agencies to stop illegal entry at the country's borders in an effort to curb the spread of Covid-19.

He said this in a special address on Thursday (Feb 4).
