Philippine coast guard says strong wind, persistent smoke hindering rescuers

At least five people have died and more than 80 remain missing after a fire broke out aboard a passenger-and-cargo ferry off Palawan in the Philippines.

Coast Guard spokesperson Commodore Noemie Cayabyab said thick smoke, strong winds and the risk of explosions were preventing rescuers from boarding the vessel, while 43 people have so far been rescued.
