PETRONAS looking at alternatives if Strait of Hormuz blockade persists, says DPM

Petroliam Nasional Berhad (PETRONAS) is exploring alternative gas and fuel sources amid the ongoing Strait of Hormuz blockade, according to Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof.

Speaking to reporters in Kuching, Sarawak on Sunday (March 22), Fadillah, who is also Energy Transition and Water Transformation Minister, urged Malaysians to conserve energy, noting government directives to limit air-conditioning in public offices to 24°C and considering work-from-home arrangements for non-essential staff.

He also highlighted the need to prevent diesel and RON95 fuel smuggling and said authorities are monitoring global oil prices, including a potential spike to US$150 per barrel, to safeguard national energy security.
