PERKESO coverage for cross-border workers soon

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced plans to extend PERKESO social security coverage to Malaysian cross-border workers, starting with those commuting to Singapore.

When delivering his Workers’ Day message in conjunction with the National Workers’ Day 2026 celebration on Friday, Anwar said the government will amend the Self-Employment Social Security Act 2017 to allow coverage for Malaysians working abroad, with the initiative expected to benefit over 480,000 workers.
