Padang Merbok reopens to the public, RM11mil flood retention pond planned

The government has allocated RM11mil to build an underground retention pond beneath Padang Merbok in Kuala Lumpur to help mitigate flash floods.

Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories) Hannah Yeoh visited the site on Friday (Jan 16), and said the 12,000-cubic-metre pond is expected to be completed by March 2027.

Yeoh also said Padang Merbok has reopened to the public after being fenced off since 2022. Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) removed the perimeter fencing on Jan 14, allowing public access.
