New MyKad QR code only for enforcement use, say NRD director

The QR code on the new MyKad cannot be read by ordinary smartphone cameras and is intended only for enforcement agencies, including the National Registration Department.
Identification Card Division director Muhammad Asraf Sukadi said the QR code was among the card’s new security features, along with a transparency window that would be difficult to replicate.
The new MyKad also drops the Touch ’n Go function, as the service has increasingly shifted to e-wallets and smartphone use.
