Eleven NGO coalitions, led by the Malaysian Trades Union Congress (MTUC), have called for the immediate postponement of the Gig Workers Act, which is set to take effect on Tuesday (March 31).
Speaking at a press conference on Monday, MTUC secretary-general Kamarul Baharin Mansor criticised the lack of consultation with labour groups, describing the process as “unusual and unfair.”
The coalitions stressed the urgent need for inclusive dialogue and impact assessments to ensure the law protects gig workers without compromising the sector’s sustainability.
