Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu on Tuesday (Sept 26) said a move to break the rice import monopoly of Padiberas Nasional Berhad (Bernas) required proper discussion among relevant ministries and addressed questions of sustainability.

Bernas, a private company controlled by business tycoon Tan Sri Syed Mokhtar Albukhary, received a 10-year extension until January 2031 on its concession to import rice under the previous government led by Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
