Motorcyclists make up two-thirds of road deaths in 2025, says Loke

Motorcycle riders accounted for 66.4% of Malaysia’s 6,537 road deaths in 2025, despite only being involved in 13.7% of all accidents, with riders aged 16–30 are most at risk, said Transport Minister Anthony Loke.

Speaking at the Dewan Rakyat during Ministry Question Time on Tuesday (Jan 27), Loke said the ministry plans to refocus road-safety programmes on young riders, restructure the free helmet replacement scheme for students, and increase enforcement against unlicensed riders.

He stressed that improving attitudes and awareness is key, as most accidents stem from human negligence.
