The motion to suspend Opposition chief whip Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan from Parliament sparked tension in the House, forcing Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul to calm the situation several times during the debate.
Takiyuddin was on the brink of facing a six-month suspension after Deputy Home Minister Datuk Seri Shamsul Anuar Nasarah tabled a motion for the Kota Baru MP’s suspension over his remarks linking the MMEA's exercise at Masjid Rusila in Marang to the 1985 Memali incident.
