MCMC detects over 600 fake posts on global energy crisis since end of March

The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has detected more than 600 fake posts related to the global energy crisis circulating between March 29 and May 6, said Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil.

He said the misinformation mainly involved sensitive economic issues such as fuel prices and global supply disruptions, with signs of coordinated activity using identical content and timing.

Authorities have taken enforcement action, with five cases brought to court and eight individuals compounded a total of RM200,000, while other cases are still under investigation.
