Malaysia denies UNHCR barred from immigration depots

Malaysia has denied allegations by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) that the agency was barred from accessing immigration detention depots.
Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said on Thursday (Dec 11) that, based on records, UNHCR made only two requests this year to visit detention facilities.
He stressed that Malaysia does not obstruct such visits and said the claims had created an inaccurate perception that must be corrected.
