MACC didn't ask permission for wiretapping, ex-AG tells court

The Attorney General (AG)'s Chambers did not authorise any wiretapping that resulted in the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC)'s infamous nine recordings, says Tan Sri Mohamed Apandi Ali.

Apandi told the High Court at the SRC International Sdn Bhd trial on Monday while the AG is empowered to authorise a lawful interception of phone conversations, no permission was sought by MACC for the wiretaps.

The former AG was under examination-in-chief by lead defence counsel Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah, who questioned him on the legality of the recordings implicating several high-profile figures, including Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
