Health DG: Social distancing effective in flattening Covid-19 curve

Not only the practice of social distancing during the movement control order (MCO) has been effective in flattening the Covid-19 infection curve but it has also brought down the cases of other communicable diseases as well.

A comparative disease analysis between the first to the twenty-second epidemiology week of 2019 and 2020 showed the number of cases of the hand, foot and mouth disease (HFMD) had gone down by 44.6%, while measles and chickenpox cases went down by 58.3% and 44.4% respectively.

Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said this during his daily briefing on Friday (June 5).
