The government will review the accessibility of apps and websites of financial institutions and government agencies for persons with visual impairments, Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said.
Speaking after a town hall with the Malaysian Association for the Blind (MAB) on Thursday (Jan 29), Fahmi acknowledged that many digital platforms remain unfriendly to visually impaired users and pledged to raise the issue with the National Digital Department and relevant ministries.
He also flagged the lack of audio features on ATMs, calling it a basic yet significant oversight, and said the matter had been discussed with the Governor of Bank Negara Malaysia and will be brought to the Association of Banks Malaysia and the Association of Islamic Banks Malaysia.
