Govt defends Tabung Haji’s RM15,000 savings rule, denies institution acting like a bank

Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH) will retain its RM15,000 minimum savings requirement for prospective haj pilgrims, with Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Dr Zulkifli Hasan saying the policy encourages early financial planning.

Responding to concerns raised during the ministry’s winding-up speech on Budget 2027 on Monday (Oct 26), Zulkifli said the initiative had reduced haj offer deferrals from more than 50% to 18%, improving queue management.
