Going bananas: Conflicts involving monkeys costs RM4.99mil worth of losses in 5 years

Human-wildlife conflicts involving monkeys caused an estimated RM4.99mil in economic losses between 2020 and 2025, affecting crops and property, the Dewan Rakyat was told.
Deputy Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Minister Syed Ibrahim Syed Noh said there were 244 claims worth RM987,000 in 2024 and 314 claims totalling RM1.49mil last year.
He urged the public not to take matters into their own hands, noting that such actions are prohibited under the Wildlife Conservation Act 2010.
