Fruit galore at Sisaket’s fruit festival

A fruit festival in Sisaket, Thailand was launched in a spectacular fashion and saw a large, man-made durian being “cut” during the opening ceremony.
This seasonal fruit is popular among Thais and foreign tourists.
In Sisaket, durians are grown in areas with volcanic soils hence its nickname, “Volcanic Durians”.
The are highly sought after and are typically more expensive than other variants in Thailand.
According to the provincial governor, Volcanic Durians can be purchased through mail order.
This festival, which is being held from June 4 to 12, also sees a large variety of tropical fruits being sold.
