Former Cameron Highlands MP Sivarraajh fails to quash EC ban

Former Cameron Highlands MP Datuk C. Sivarraajh has failed to quash the Election Commission's (EC) decision that barred him from contesting or voting in any election for five years.

This came after he was found to have been involved in corrupt practices during the 14th General Election, that saw him winning his parliamentary seat.

High Court judge Justice Nordin Hassan said that the decision by the EC, which was conveyed through a letter dated Dec 28, 2018, was in accordance with the law.

In his decision on Thursday (Jan 10), Justice Nordin said that there was no illegality or irrationality with the EC's decision in barring Sivarraajh from partaking in elections in the future.

The court also ordered the applicant to pay RM5,000 in costs.
