First Malaysian woman elected to public office passes away, aged 100

Devaki Krishnan, the first woman to be elected to public office in Malaysia, has died.

Her grandson, Datuk R. Ramanan, who is also Deputy Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister, earlier said that Devaki had passed away at her home at 8pm on Saturday(Jan 20) due to old age. She was 100.

In a Facebook post, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim extended his condolences to Devaki's family, saying that Devaki's contribution and sacrifices will be remembered forever.
