Father breaks down in court, admits attempted murder of toddler

A 27-year-old man broke into tears as he admitted at the Sessions Court in Subang Jaya on Thursday to a charge of attempted murder of his 20-month-old daughter by stabbing the baby in her stomach.

Muhammad Safwan Shafie pleaded guilty to the murder attempt which caused a 5cm laceration on the baby’s stomach.

Sessions Court judge Mohammed Mokhzani Mokhtar sentenced him to 10 years in jail and ordered for the jail time to run from the date of arrest on Dec 12.
