Family and lawyers call for action over alleged police abuse of 20-year-old man

A 20-year-old man, identified only as Daniel, has alleged he was beaten, tortured, and abused by police following a wrongful arrest for snatch theft in November.

At a press conference on Monday (Dec 22), Daniel, accompanied by his mother and Lawyers for Liberty (LFL) executive director Latheefa Koya, as well as lawyers Rajesh Nagarajan and Yu Ying Ying, said he was repeatedly assaulted and pressured to confess to a crime he did not commit.

The lawyers also presented CCTV footage of the alleged assault at his grandfather’s house, saying it clearly showed the abuse and urging immediate action to prevent a potential cover-up.
