Espionage remains a persistent threat in Malaysia, with foreign intelligence agencies seeking to recruit locals for covert operations, said Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.

Speaking in the Dewan Rakyat on Thursday (Aug 21), Saifuddin cited the 2022 arrest of private investigator Nidarahayu Zainal, accused of working as an informant for Israel’s Mossad.

He said foreign spy networks often use locals to monitor targets and provide logistics, while some operatives pose as tourists to photograph restricted sites.
