E-waste in M'sia: Integrated ops to be carried out, current findings only 'tip of the iceberg'

A large-scale operation on electronic waste (e-waste) in Malaysia will be launched, with MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki warning current findings are only the “tip of the iceberg”.

He said probes under Ops Metal uncovered Malaysia being used as a dumping ground for illegal foreign waste, involving document falsification, cargo misdeclaration and abuse of import licences—enabled by corruption within enforcement.

Azam added that discussions will also be held to review plastic waste import needs and quotas.
