E-commerce platform's new fee structure will squeeze sellers, says group

Local e-commerce sellers are urging government intervention over a new platform fee structure set to take effect on July 16, warning it could lead to higher consumer prices and destabilise Malaysia’s digital economy.

At a press conference hosted at Wisma MCA on Friday (July 11), e-commerce entrepreneur Catheline Teoh said constant policy changes and rising operational costs are making it harder for local businesses to survive.

Teoh also warned that if left unchecked, Malaysia could become overly reliant on foreign brands, threatening the nation’s digital sovereignty.
