Loan shark and online gambling syndicates are believed to be operated by the same criminal groups and the World Cup season is making things worse.

MCA Youth deputy chief Mike Chong Yew Chuan warned that gamblers who lose money during major sporting events are frequently targeted by loan sharks offering quick loans to cover their debts.
