Defence Minister: Govt will talk to other fifth-gen jet suppliers if Kuwait buy takes too long

Malaysia is considering procuring fifth-generation (5G) fighter jets from France, the United States or Russia to replace its current fleet by 2040, the Dewan Rakyat was told.
Winding up debates on the 13th Malaysia Plan on Wednesday (Aug 20), Defence Minister Datuk Seri Khaled Nordin said the option would be explored if delivery of the F/A-18 Hornet jets from Kuwait is delayed.
He added that the ministry is also working to have all 18 Sukhoi fighter jets fully operational by 2030.
