Dataran Merdeka left in mess after 25,000 gather for World Cup final screening

Dataran Merdeka was left littered with rubbish after some 25,000 fans gathered to watch the 2026 FIFA World Cup final live, as part of the World Cup X Uniti Merdeka 2026 Fiesta on Monday (July 20).

DBKL expressed disappointment over the mess and said the field would be cleaned up.

Federal Territories Minister Hannah Yeoh echoed the sentiment, saying while DBKL fulfilled its duty, keeping public spaces clean is a basic responsibility residents must uphold themselves.
