Christa Pike botched execution unlikely to rein in use of lethal injection in US

The botched execution of Christa Pike by the state of Tennessee on Sept 30 is unlikely to spark a broad move to restrain the use of lethal injection as a means of carrying out the death penalty in the United States, according to capital punishment researcher Serene Singh.

The state authorities said they had suspended all executions for the remainder of this year as an investigation had been launched to determine what went wrong.
