The Budi95 fuel subsidy programme is expected to generate RM2.5bil in savings this year, subject to global oil prices and exchange rates, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim told the Dewan Rakyat.

Anwar said the savings would be channelled back to the public through aid initiatives such as Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah (STR) and Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (Sara), with RM200mil already spent by two million Malaysians under the latest Sara rollout.

He revealed that the Cabinet had rejected proposals to remove RON95 subsidies for those earning RM13,000 and above, calling the threshold too low, and also dismissed a RM25,000 cut-off as ineffective since it would affect only 2% of the population.
